Following the Kurgan hypothesis of Marija Gimbutas, this is the approximate location of Early Proto-Indo-European speakers, before the Anatolian split. Hipothetical Pre-Northern (purple), Pre-Southern (blue) and Pre-Proto-Anatolian (brown) dialectal zones are also depicted.
